Frequently asked questions

1. What exactly needs to be covered?

Kit/personal possessions comprise of everything you would take with you, where-ever you are stationed. Items include uniforms, service clothing, personal items for own use, personal possessions belonging to you such as clothing, glasses, watches and sports equipment (see your insurer’s policy documents for terms and conditions).

Contents comprise of everything that you could take with you if you were to move home. Go through every room making an inventory of contents including items in cupboards and wardrobes. Also note items in the loft, garage, shed and the garden. Any satellite dishes or aerials are considered to be an extension of the television and are therefore covered under your contents policy.

2. How do I calculate how much cover I need?

You should calculate what it would cost to replace all of your kit/personal possessions and contents items at today's prices.

If you already have insurance in place, please refer to your renewal documents or schedule of insurance for your existing levels of cover.

3. Do I need to take into account inflation?

Although you must keep the sum insured at a level that represents their full purchase value, we will increase this in line with the General Index of Retail Prices for contents, or as instructed by your insurer. For your protection, should the index fall below zero, we will not reduce the sum insured. At renewal we will calculate the premium using the new sum insured.

4. What type of policies do we offer?

We offer comprehensive cover for your kit/personal possessions taken away from the home and contents within the home, including accidental damage cover as standard.

5. Can I get instant kit and contents insurance?

Cover can start immediately, once payment is accepted and authorised.

6. Can I pay my kit and contents insurance by instalments on-line?

Yes. The premium can be paid by Direct Debit over the following 11 months. A credit charge is payable and this will be added to your total premium.

7. Are my personal items covered when I take them away from home?

Yes, your personal items will be covered for worldwide under your kit/personal possessions policy. This includes uniforms, mess dress, tool kit, cameras, cash/money and credit/debit cards (subject to limits - see your insurer’s policy documents).

Please note that some items will not be covered under your kit/personal possession policy and therefore will need to be specified. These items include pedal cycles, mobile phones, Ipod, MP3, GPS, laptops, contact lenses and ceremonial swords.
